1. Who We Are

Trip Logbook is owned and operated by ML McCabe trading as Bilateral, a sole proprietorship registered in the Republic of South Africa.

2.1 The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 18.
2.2 By using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.

3.1 We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.

3.2 The most recent version will always be posted here. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

4. Information We Collect

We collect only the personal information that is necessary to provide and improve the Service. The types of information we collect include:

We use your device’s location services (GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular) to help log trips. All trip-related location data is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to or stored on our servers.

4.4 Payment Information

We do not collect, store, or process credit card or banking details. All payment transactions are handled by the Apple App and Google Play Stores.

4.5 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Vehicle information
  • Places / locations you define
  • Trip reasons
  • Route attributes
  • Trip log history
  • Fuel Log
  • Vehicle Service Log
  • Expenses

We cannot recover any data stored locally on your device. It is your responsibility to regularly create backups using the in-app backup function and to export your logs to CSV format for safekeeping.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Send essential account-related emails (e.g., verification, password reset, two-factor authentication)
  • Send optional service announcements (you can opt out)
  • Provide customer support
  • Detect and prevent technical issues or abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

6. Location Permission

6.1 The app requests location permission only when needed for specific features.
6.2 While Using the App location permission is used to create places based on your current location. Manual GPS based trip tracking will also require this permission.
6.3 Always / Background location permission is used if you enable automatic trip tracking. Background location data is processed and stored locally on your device only.

7. Sharing of Information

7.1 We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
7.2 We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
7.3 We may share information with:

  • Third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Service (see Section 8)

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. After account closure, we may retain certain information for legal, tax, or regulatory compliance purposes.

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
